ZIP Codes: 33950, 33955, 33982

Approximate Location Boundaries: Punta Gorda is located on the eastern side of Charlotte Harbor with the town of Port Charlotte immediately to the north and North Fort Myers to the south.

Location Characteristics: The picturesque town of Punta Gorda is located on the banks of the Peace River and the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida. It traces its heritage to a landing at Live Oak Point on the Peace River by Hernando DeSoto in 1539. The name itself means "Broad Point" in the language of the Conquistadors. Geographically sited between the larger areas of Sarasota to the north and Fort Myers to the south, it is easily accessed from I75 and is intersected by US Highway 41. It is the county seat and is the only incorporated area in Charlotte County, Florida. Small-town friendly, Punta Gorda is populated with citizens who have a passion for the relaxed coastal lifestyle and all that implies.
With its easy access to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico, fishing, boating and sailing opportunities abound. Because of its average depth of only ten to twelve feet, Charlotte Harbor is not impeded by commercial shipping traffic and will remain as it's always been - a mecca for recreational boaters and fishermen. There are numerous active boat clubs in the immediate area, in addition to some fine golf courses.
The community boasts a unique downtown historical district with several sites on the National Register. Cobblestone streets, a bevy of interesting shops and fine non-chain restaurants make the downtown area a destination stop. The same can be said for Fisherman's Village which houses many shops and waterfront eateries. Subdivisions of note include the deed-restricted upscale community of Punta Gorda Isles where most homes offer sailboat access to Charlotte Harbor; Burnt Store Isles and Meadows providing a variety of housing options and boating opportunities; and Deep Creek with its freshwater lakes and beautiful golf courses.
Regularly recognized as one of America's best places to live, retire, boat and golf, it's hard to overlook its vast appeal.
