The "Top 25 Suburbs for Retirement" list assembled by Forbes.com includes suburbs from 22 different states, with Indiana being one of three states that had two suburbs make the cut; Fishers and Munster, IN.
In compiling this list, Forbes.com considered suburbs that are less than 25 miles from the center of a big city and have an average home price under $400,000. Additional factors used in the decision were cost of living, tax climate for retirees, availability of hospitals and higher education, crime rates, air quality, and transportation options back to the big city.
"Unsurpassed quality of life is something we strive for in Fishers," said Fishers Town Council Vice President Michael Colby. "Being recognized on this list is yet another wonderful accomplishment for the town."
Though the list itself was unranked, Fishers was recognized as having the lowest crime rate of the 25 suburbs included. Cost of living in Fishers, 10% below the national average, was also acknowledged as one of the lowest on the list and was another important feature that set Fishers apart and helped secure the top 25 spot.
"This is a great acknowledgement of the dedication the Town of Fishers has put into maintaining excellence throughout the community," said Council Member David George. "We are proud of this recognition and will continue working hard towards improving the town for our residents." Source: Town of Fishers
