Bethesda, Maryland - a suburb of Washington DC and a major research center for the federal government and private research organizations maintains a thriving urban environment with hundreds of restaurants, shops and other amenities. Though home to an estimated 55,277 residents employed mainly in professional services, science and technology with annual incomes far above the national average, residential properties still range from small and affordable to modern and luxurious. Due to the increase in the housing inventory which is as a result of the distress in the mortgage industry that has resulted in shortsales and foreclosures for numerous homeowners, the real estate market in Bethesda, following the trend in the rest of the DC metro area, continues to be a buyers market. Inspite of the problems with the credit markets, any potential buyer who can qualify for a mortgage has plenty of choice out there for homes. They are able to work out deals with sellers. According to the MRIS Regional Economics Manager, potential buyers need to realize that deals won't seek them out. They must seek and bargain for good deals. Luckily, there are motivated sellers who price their properties competitively and are willing to throw in incentives to get transactions going.
