Did you know . . . Minneapolis ranks No. 1 in a study of "America's Most Literate Cities" of 2007? The annual ranking of reading habits in major U.S. cities examines newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment and Internet resources.

A great bit of news from the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors (MAAR)- for the first time in ten months and only the second time in two years, the number of purchase agreements signed (pending sales) for the week ending May 17th is slightly ahead of one year ago. During that week, there were 714 purchase agreements signed, an increase of 1.7% from that this same time period 1 year ago. An interesting fact is that 27.5% of these pending sales involved a bank; either through a short sale or foreclosure.
There continues to be a drop in the number of new homes on the market. We reached a peak number the week of May 3rd, with 2380 homes available, a 16.6% decrease from a year ago. Since then, we've had a drop in new listings with May 17 having 2183 homes, a reduction of 17.5% from a year ago. A great indicator that we have gotten through the worst of this and are on the rebound.
