Location Characteristics: Southwest Charlotte is an area that we define as the southwest corner of Mecklenburg County from I-485 to the shores of Lake Wylie. This quadrant of I-485 was opened to traffic just a few years ago, and what was once a sparsely populated piece of country with a few commercial and industrial parks has now exploded with homes and shopping. Southwest Charlotte offers easy access to Uptown Charlotte and the airport, since there are several alternate routes to those destinations, and the proximity of Lake Wylie just adds to the allure. A wide range of homes are available, from very affordable condos and town homes to luxurious developments near the lake. The Sanctuary and The Palisades are two nationally-recognized and highly desirable developments on the lake shore, and the new urbanism development of Berewick just to the north is based on a Scottish theme. Another new development, The Vineyards on Lake Wylie by DR Horton is underway north of Berewick, and Crescent Communities has just begun Chapel Cove across Shopton Road from The Sanctuary. This is a hot area that still can offer reasonably priced housing without a long commute.
