Location Characteristics: This area is the north and northwest part of Oklahoma City.Putnam City High School (commonly, PC, Putnam City Original, and PCO) is a secondary school located in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. It is one of three high schools in the Putnam City Schools District. Putnam City is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools.
According to the school's alumni website, Putnam City Schools opened its doors in 1915 and was a consolidation of Central School, at N.W. 23rd and Rockwell; Ozmun School, at N.W. 23rd and Portland; Goff School, at N.W. 63rd and Rockwell; and County Line School, at Wilshire and County Line Road. Class were offered for grades 1-8 initially and were held in the I.M Putnam building at 40th and Grove, the current site of Capps Middle School, which is part of Putnam City Schools, Oklahoma ISD number 1. The first graduating class was only 3 students and graduated in 1919.
The current site of the school at 5300 NW 50th St. was opened in 1958 and has been added to several times. The school has a separate science/history building, band room, orchestra room, two cafeterias, large student parking, and two gymnasiums. It is also the site of the main district stadium which is shared by all three high schools for football, track meets, and other outdoor activities.
PC serves students in grades 9-12 and enrolls approximately 1900-2000 students each year. The area PCHS serves is roughly bounded by N.W. 39th street on the south, N.W. Expressway on the North, Portland Ave. to the east, and County Line Road to the west.
