Location Characteristics: Named for the Delaware River, Delaware County is one of 67 counties in Pennsylvania. It is fast-growing and located just southwest of Philadelphia. It has 49 unique municipalities with a total population of 550,864 based on year 2000 census. The county has 11 colleges and universities among which are Penn State, Villanova University, and Haverford College. Delaware County blends the sophistication of the city with the tranquility of the countryside. You'll find bustling industry, rolling Pennsylvania hills, turn-of-the-century small towns and gleaming cityscapes, neighborhoods with large Victorian homes and shaded streets.
Delaware County is very accessible to those who work in Philadelphia, where it takes approximately 20 to 40 minutes of commuting time by car or public transportation. Public transportation is convenient by bus or train, including the elevated train that stops on 69th Street. Access to Philadelphia International Airport is easy through I-95.
