Ballentine is a small community that likes to stay that way. It has a newer elementary school in the Lex/Rich #5 district, the top rated district in Columbia. You can get there via S.C. Highway 176 or Dutch Fork Road, it goes through Ballentine and White Rock towards Chapin.

Per State News Paper 2/4/09 and their information from zillo.com the 2008 market compared to 2007 for Irmo has a change for the positive + 4.1% and the median home price is $141,528.
Several new communities here attract buyers to move here and the easy access to I-26 and downtown. Lex/Rich #5 School District Minutes to Irmo and Columbiana Center for all your shopping and restaurants. Approx. 15 minutes to downtown.

Location Characteristics: Ballentine is located between the Irmo and the Chapin area, in Richland County. It is in the Lex.Rich #5 School District one of the best in the state. It is a small community that is starting to grow with some new residential home developments and businesses. A new Wal-mart with other stores will come soon off Hwy 76. Property owners keep an eye on the growth because they like their town and area the way it is, rural. It is near Irmo and very close to I-26 and Lake Murray Access. Easy access to I-26, minutes to Columbiana Mall for shopping, entertainment and a variety of restaurants, The YMCA and Gold's Gym are very close-by, other fitness places and more. US News reported recently (per The State Paper 9/30/09) that Columbia is in the 10 best affordable places to retire to. They said that "Retirees want a more diverse set of opportunities and they can find that in a university town".
US News said it "thought out places with low cost of living and reasonable housing prices that still offered access to the services and amenities that people should look for in an ideal retirement spot"
