Mortgage rates are at all time lows and are currently bouncing around 5.375%. Just recently however they were at 4.75% and are expected to go up significantly soon. The number of new listings is up as well in Brookfield, up 8.0% vs. 2008, which has prices down 7.1% this year. Traditionally as new listings go down the market becomes more in balance with the number of buyers; helping prices to stabilize and start appreciating again.
Helping the market turnaround is a new incentive for buyers in the "Housing and Economic Recovery Act "; an $8,000 First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit. Simply put, if you haven't owned a home in the last 3 years your government will give you $8,000 to buy one. With the $8,000 tax credit, interest rates at historic lows, an abundance of inventory and the recent market price adjustments this is probably the opportunity of a lifetime to buy or upgrade! This tax credit ends soon however, so you must act quickly. Give me a call or visit my website for more information on about this incentive.
