Where are we Going? Employee Relocation Council Focuses on the Globe
by Blanche Evans
![]() Companies today face a constant challenge: Where is the relocation industry and the corporate community headed in coming years? Answers to this question can be found at ERC's 1998 Fall Symposium Program to be held in Chicago, Illinois from October 18-23. This program, which encompasses ERC's 1998 International Symposium and Management Symposium, has established a tradition of providing in-depth discussion of critical issues for the relocation professional, offering excellent educational content, and exceptional training and development sessions that enhance the professional and personal lives of attendees. Each meeting provides attendees with 15 credits toward CRPTM re-certification. At ERC's 1998 International Symposium, "Expanding Your Borders," participants will get critical updates for global endeavors. Held from October 18-20 in Chicago, the International Symposium features outstanding keynote speakers F.W. de Klerk, former president of South Africa and 1993 Nobel Peace Prize co-recipient and Middle East expert Judith Kipper. Opening General Session speaker Mr. de Klerk was widely praised for his efforts to keep South Africa on the negotiations path during its transition to nonracial democracy. Closing Session speaker Judith Kipper, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, is a Middle East specialist and coordinator for the Middle East Studies Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. To aid global relocation specialists in learning the skills they need to be effective with international workforce management, the International Symposium offers Cross-cultural Training in an Interactive Seminar and such sessions as Developing Global Talent, Explore Best Practices, Around the World in One Policy, Global Retirement Plans, Expatriate Healthcare Policies and Practices, Is There an Expatriate Service Center in Your Future?, Starting a Business Overseas, Pre-departure Preparation, Measuring the ROI of an Expatriate Assignment, Virtual International Relocation Centers, Strategies for Building Global Leadership Capabilities, Family Matters: The Hidden Costs of Relocation, and Repatriation - a Cross-cultural View. Attendees can also discover critical information on transfers from country-specific sessions that address Russia, China, Southeast Asia, Brazil, the United Kingdom and the U.S. Professional development opportunities like the International and Management Symposiums and other ERC programs and publications help relocation professionals to continually increase their expertise in relocation issues, and allow corporations relocating employees (and the companies that provide services to them) to communicate more effectively and to conduct transfers more efficiently. To learn more about ERC's Management Symposium and International Symposium, call ERC at 202/857-0903 to request complete meeting information or e-mail meetings@erc.org. Registration information is also available on ERC's Website at http://www.erc.org or via ERC On Demand by calling 1-800-ERC-5952 (outside the U.S. dial 1-508-351-8701) and requesting information on the International Symposium (document #15080) and the Management Symposium (document #15070).
