Celebrity Report: Home is Not Yet Gone with the Wind
by Blanche Evans
![]() Home is Not Yet Gone with the Wind The former home of Academy Award-winner Leslie Howard who solidified his place in cinematic history as "Ashley Wilkes in 1939's "Gone with the Wind" has just been put on the market at $2,299,000. Listed by Michael Libow with Coldwell Banker Beverly Hills South, the two-story, east coast style home at 606 N. Camden Drive in Beverly Hills has been recently refurbished and boasts 4,300 sq.ft. According to Libow, Mr. Howard had purchased the home from screen siren, Hedy Lamarr, best remembered as the sultry "Delilah" of the classic sandals, swords and sand epic "Samson and Delilah" with Victor Mature. Nancy Walker's Home Rick Chimienti of DBL Realtors, Beverly Hills, has just listed the Studio City home owned by the late late comedienne and director Nancy Walker and her husband of 40 years, David Craig. Offered at $1.6 million, the home has 5,600 sq. ft. and boasts spectacular city views. The property includes a main house with two master suites and a two-story guest house. Walker had a thriving career on Broadway both as an actress and a director, but most will remember her as Mrs. Morgenstern, Rhoda's mother, a lead character on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Rhoda" and from her television commercials for Bounty "the quick picker-upper" paper towel product. Debbie Reynolds Folds Her Hand ![]() "This is a sad ending to a lot of hard work and special dreams," said Debbie Reynolds, as her Las Vegas hotel-casino fetched only $9 million in a forced auction. The bankrupt hotel/casino was bought by the World Wrestling Federation, whose spokesperson Ed Kaufman, attorney, said the purchase marks his company's entry into the Las Vegas market. The hotel's bankruptcy forced Ms. Reynolds into personal bankruptcy as well. But the woman who was once known as "America's Sweetheart," and the popular star of such movie hits as "Singing in the Rain" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," is on the mat yet. Although she is reportedly upset by the low sales figure, she is determined to go on. Richard King Uses TV to Market Home Richard King, a director at King World Productions, bought TV time to air one minute commercials of his home 50 times, the first time an individual home has been advertised on mainstream television, CNBC. Marketed through Prudential Real Estate Affiliates Inc., the house's TV budget alone will be in the $300,000 range, or one-tenth of its $3.5 million asking price. According to Prudential sources, the ad is generating a lot of interest. Published: August 12, 1998 Use of this article without permission is a violation of federal copyright laws.
