Landlord Roger Hostin is staking a claim to thousands of dollars in damages
he says were caused by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star David Boreanaz and his
roommate Patrick Bradley.
Hostin has filed a lawsuit against the pair in Los Angeles Superior Court
demanding that the roommates coffin up at least $100,000 in damages to repair
his Los Feliz residence.
The 3,500-square-foot home, which was built in the 1920s, once belonged to
silent film star Charlotte Du Puis.
On screen, the two stars have played bad boy roles. On Buffy, Boreanaz plays a
vampire named Angel who alternates between good and evil. Bradley once starred
as Kelly Bundy's biker boyfriend on "Married...with Children."
The predatory pair, who lived in the house for four years, allegedly ravaged
the property and stole some of its contents, according to the lawsuit. Hostin
claims the electrical system was destroyed (we must, after all, have darkness
after sunup), the floors were ruined, and unreported leaks left the ceiling and
walls with significant water damage.
The landlord claims his tenants stole mattresses, antique records and phones,
Civil War-era heirlooms and other items. But the question remains -- what about
the mirrors?
The trouble began in 1996, when neighbors began telling Hostin that the actors
were holding "raucous, lewd, disruptive and sometimes violent" parties. At one
point, neighbors said that if Hostin didn’t get rid of his tenuous tenants, he
would be facing a lawsuit.
In July 1998, Hostin finally evicted Boreanaz and Bradley. That’s when he
found out how bloody much damage had been done to the property.
Hostin wants the court to award him unpaid rent, attorney’s fees and
unspecified damages. Boreanaz has denied the allegations.
