So who says wearing bell bottoms, driving a psychedelic van and putting up
with Danny Bonaducci aren’t worth the big bucks?
Those forms of 70s torture have paid off in square footage for Oscar-winning
singer and actress Shirley Jones and her husband Marty Ingels, a comedian and
actor.
The Beverly Hills couple is close to completing a major renovation of their
home, which has been expanded from about 5,400 square feet to about 8,200
square feet, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Jones, who has owned the 44-year-old house since 1965, said she had expected to
spend about $250,000. But after adding a game room and other features (highly
desirable to shut out that off-key lip synching the Partridges specialized in),
the project totaled out at almost $1 million.
The renovation has been a long-term project that first began in late 1996,
according to the Times.
Included in the renovation are the conversion of a backyard garage into an
office/guest house; construction of a game room with video games and a large
master suite; installation of a slate roof; and, replacement of plumbing and
electrical systems throughout the house.
The project is one big carousel, and the merry-go-round isn’t likely to stop
soon. The pool and waterfall rock garden still are under construction. Plus,
Ingels wants to expand the renovation with a kitchen remodel. Let’s hope Susan
and her mysterious uncle know how to find a drive-in.
