OK. You’ve got a Web site, therefore you have a domain. You or your Web
designer registered it with Network Solutions, and you’re set, right? Not
necessarily.
Web designer Sandy Teller knows
otherwise."I just heard from an agent who had a domain for the past two
years....and just lost it. Realtors should be advised to verify their domain
registration information at Network
Solutions so that this doesn’t happen to them."
"Anyone who has been on the Web for close to two years is due for domain
renewal fees. If the registration address is not current at renewal time, the
domain owner (hopefully the agent) may not receive an invoice from Network
Solutions. Ditto the e-mail address: they send an e-mail copy and a snail mail
copy of the bill for the coming year. When Network Solutions doesn't receive
payment for renewal, they pull the plug on the domain
name. In other words, you lose your domain name," cautions Teller.
To check registration information, go to Make Changes to find
the forms to fix the problem. On-line help is available at
Help. To
talk to someone at Network Solutions, call 703 742-4777. It's easiest to get
through early in the morning: I believe they start taking calls at 7 AM Eastern
Time, but be prepared to spend some time on hold.
It is VERY common for the registration information to be incorrect two
years after originally obtaining a domain name, so it pays to check!
