Homestore.com, Inc., (Nasdaq:HOMS) and the National Association of Home
Builders(NAHB) today announced the development of a new seniors housing area on
the Homestore.com(tm) network of sites, designed to serve millions of
prospective home buyers over 55 years of age.
"This is a great opportunity for builders to market their homes on the
Internet to the nation's rapidly growing and diverse seniors housing
market," said NAHB President Robert Mitchell. "Nearly 60 million Americans
are now over 55 and that number will grow to 81 million by the year 2010.
Homes, developments and housing facilities designed for mature adults will
continue to gain market share in the years ahead."
Stuart Wolff, chairman and chief executive officer of Homestore.com,
Inc. said that the association's endorsement of the soon to be created
seniors housing section would help Homestore.com "tap what could be one of
the fastest growing and diverse segments of the housing market in the decade
ahead."
Under the agreement, Homestore.com has been designated as the
official and exclusive web site for NAHB's National Council on Seniors
Housing (NCOSH). Homestore.com also
operates HomeBuilder.com(tm) and Remodel.com(tm), NAHB's official new home and
remodeling sites on the Internet.
The seniors housing section is being developed as part of
HomeStore.com's family of real estates sites, which are attracting more than
3.7 unique visits per month from people who are seeking property listings
and other information on existing homes, new homes, remodeling, housing,
finance and other real estate activity. Once launched later this year, the
new seniors area will provide information on new homes and developments
designed specifically for the mature market. The content for the channel is
being developed with the assistance of NCOSH, a council within NAHB that
represents builders and other professionals in the seniors housing market.
NCOSH also has endorsed Homestore.com as its exclusive provider of real
estate content and web-based products and services - including web sites,
home pages, email services and other Internet-related products - to NCOSH
members.
NCOSH will promote Homestore.com globally to its members,
affiliates, trade show attendees and partners and will integrate
Homestore.com's participation at NCOSH events and trade shows.
Additionally, Homestore.com will host update and maintain NCOSH's member web
site.
