With final 2001 statistics in, global franchisor RE/MAX International
reports a nine percent increase in membership and 13.3 percent growth in
franchised offices over the previous year. Sales associate count increased
5,697 – to a total of 69,825 and for the fourth consecutive year, franchise
sales exceeded 500 at 532 – bringing total offices to 4,159 in 38 countries.
2001 was the third best franchise sales year in the history of the
organization. Since 1998, RE/MAX franchise sales have averaged 555 per year.
1999 and 2000 were the best with 564 and 592 new franchises respectively while
531 new franchises were sold in 1998.
“Considering the economy and major events of 2001, we are quite pleased
with the continued growth,” commented Daryl Jesperson, president of RE/MAX
International. “RE/MAX has recorded growth every month since its inception in
1973, and that can be attributed to the outstanding regional owners, regional
directors, broker/owners and managers throughout the world. During those 30
years, there were some wonderful economic times as well as several recessions
and numerous challenges. These entrepreneurs have endured and led thousands of
real estate professionals into successful personal careers.”
Leading the growth in RE/MAX franchise sales for 2001 was RE/MAX of
California/Hawaii with 38. Next was RE/MAX South Africa at 34 followed by
RE/MAX of Florida with 27. RE/MAX of Portugal at 24 and RE/MAX of Texas with
21 took fourth and fifth places. Net agent growth was strongest in the United
States at 4,478 while RE/MAX of Europe increased by 666 and South Africa added
232 sales associates.
