Golf and baseball are only two reasons the counties of Oakland and Livingston in Michigan are growing in popularity, says a local Realtor.
"The Charter Township of Lyon is a developing semi-rural community in the southwest corner of Oakland County," explains Realtor Nancy Johnson. "It has a fast growing industrial/research/manufacturing base, located along I-96 and Grand River Avenue, in the north part of the township. Non-residential growth has been facilitated by public water and sewer utilities recently constructed by the township.
"Residential growth has also occurred with residents attracted to the community by open spaces and recreational facilities," continues Johnson. "The township contains numerous golf courses, Lyon Oaks County Park and the 120-acre Lyon Township Community Park. Island Lake State Recreation Area and Kensington Metropark abut the community to the north. New retail facilities to support the growing population are currently being built in New Hudson on Milford Road at I-96. The township is also developing a $2 million bike path as part of a network extending from Jackson to St. Clair. Lyon Township is served by South Lyon Community Schools and the Northville School District.
Johnson says, "There are currently 136 active residential listings in South Lyon/Lyon Township, 11 of those listings are new. Since the beginning of 2003, 65 properties have gone pending or sold, eight of those in the past week. The overall feel of the market is cautious while we await the latest war news. Interest rates remain favorable.
South Lyon
"The city of South Lyon, a full-service city, serves the surrounding rural townships," says Johnson. "The small town atmosphere is rich in history and scenery, offering the best in small-town living. McHattie Park, located in the center of the city, includes playground equipment, Little League ball diamond, sand volleyball courts, sled hill, outdoor ice skating and hockey rink. The park is home to historic Witches Hat Depot Museum, the Fright House and the Victorian Museum. The South Lyon Rail Trail gets its start in McHattie Park. South Lyon is served by South Lyon Community Schools and the Salem-South Lyon Library District."
Green Oak Township
"Green Oak Township is located in the southeast quadrant of Livingston County," explains Johnson. "The township is adjacent to Oakland County which bound the township to the east and Washtenaw County which bounds the township to the south. Woodland and lakes are plentiful in this township and Huron Meadows Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation Area are valued recreational assests of the community. The township is served by three school districts: South Lyon Community Schools, Whitmore Lake Schools and Brighton Schools. US-23 splits the township with easy access to Brighton to the north and Ann Arbor to the south.
"There are 132 active residential listings in Green Oak Township, 15 of those listings are new," she says. "Since the beginning of 2003, 54 properties have gone pending or sold, seven in the past week. The overall feel of the market is cautious as we await the latest war news. Interest rates remain favorable."
