Bryn Mawr, Radnor and Haverford are among a few "Main Line" towns that offer older elegant, stately colonial homes and estates, say local Realtors.
"There are also a variety of smaller homes, condominiums, and apartments available," notes Realtor Nancy Dubin. "The downtown shopping area has several excellent restaurants, boutiques, bookstores, and one of the few remaining old-fashioned small town movie theaters. Bryn Mawr is located in Lower Merion Township, which is recognized internationally for its award-winning schools, proximity to major roadways, airports, shopping, many colleges and universities, and excellent quality of life. The train from Bryn Mawr will get you to Center City Philadelphia in less than 20 minutes."
About the market, Dubin says, "Homes currently on the market in and around Bryn Mawr seem slightly more reasonably priced. Also, most homes are not selling with multiple offers over the asking price. This should be a great relief for buyers who can now purchase a home without the added stress of a bidding war. The down-side is that the inventory of homes for sale is low, and because late fall and winter are traditionally the slowest times of the year in real estate, an increase in inventory should not be expected until early spring. However, the 'leftovers' that have been reduced in price ultimately may (and often do) sell under market value. Because a 'bargain' like this could be found, now might be the best time to look for a new home!"
Radnor
"Radnor is a wonderful, vibrant suburb of Philadelphia with a charming small downtown shopping and dining area in Wayne, a unique selection of old-fashioned Victorian style homes, and an award-winning school system," explains Dubin. "All this and more make it one of the most sought after areas to live."
Haverford
"Haverford is one of the classic Main Line Philadelphia locations, home of Haverford College," says Dubin, "and The Haverford School for boys both within walking distance of a charming little shopping area. Haverford is located in Lower Merion Township, which is recognized internationally for its award-winning schools, proximity to major roadways, airports, shopping, and excellent quality of life. The train from Haverford will get you to Center City Philadelphia in less than 15 minutes."
Adds Realtor Dorothy Simon Leventhal, "Charming small homes to appeal to first-time buyers to lovely private estates. Close to major arteries for easy travel into Philadelphia or shopping in King of Prussia Malls. There are private golf clubs and terrific schools, both public and private."
