Sales were up 12 percent in October from last year, and up seven percent from September, say local Realtors.
"Toronto is a clean, safe, cosmopolitan city with a wonderful network of parks, recreational, and cultural facilities," says Realtor Carlos Vieira, "Toronto is the home of four professional sports teams and the third largest English-speaking theatre district in the world, behind New York and London. One of the world's most ethnically diverse cities, it is home to more than 80 ethnic communities from Africa, Asia, and Europe. Toronto is also the business centre of Canada. Toronto is a first-rate North American visitor destination. With countless outstanding attractions including Skydome, Casa Loma, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), The Hockey Hall of Fame and the CN Tower, it's not surprising that Canada's most populated city (more than 4.5 million in the greater area) entertains millions of visitors each year."
Vieira explains, "Toronto recorded 7,227 single-family dwelling sales in October through the Toronto Real Estate Board MLS system, up 12 per cent from last October's. With 6,455 closings, sales were up seven per cent from September's 6,751 figure. The average price for a single-family home moved up three percent to $304,844 in October from September's price of $297,398, and up nine percent from the $279,771 recorded in October 2002. The average days-on-market was 35. The average sale-to-list price ratio was 98 percent."
On the harbourfront, Realtors Rob Roland and Linda Basir say, "Condos along the Toronto waterfront are minutes to the financial and entertainment districts. World class shopping, professional sports, tourist attractions are also only minutes away."
"Waterfront apartments on the harbour offer a wide range of attractions," they continue, "from avant garde art (Power Plant Gallery), DuMaurier Theatre to sailing, antiques, biking and jogging. One of the best city walking areas is along the waterfront trail and parks. From your 18th floor condo you can see yachts at the Royal Canadian and Queen City Yacht Clubs. Harbourfront Centre has year-round activities but the International Festival of Authors puts it on the world stage. Demographically, not a family area, but more middle to upper income couples and professionals. Excellent public transit and road system. The average one-bedroom is $225,000, and the average two- bedroom is $325,000 with many apartments up to $500,000 and more."
