Grosse Pointe

"Activity levels in house sales continue to pick up largely due to the still very attractive interest rates," says Realtor Alice W. Baetz. "First-time home buyers are still very active. Listings that are priced appropriately and in "ready for buyers" condition are seeing a lot of activity in showings and consequently sales."

"The New Year market brings many new buyers," suggests Realtor Gary Severn. "We have seen an increase in appointments, open house traffic and visits on our websites, particularly since the second week of January. Presently, there are 377 homes on the market in the Grosse Pointes, down 12 percent since fall. Early last year we had nearly 500 homes on the market. Twenty-three percent of the Grosse Pointe homes are priced at $750,000 or higher. This is significant since it was 15 percent in January of 2003. It's a buyer's market with approximately a six-month inventory of homes available. Interest rates are still very good, and, as always, there is a strong demand for homes that are priced appropriately and in top-notch condition."

Harper Woods

Says Severn, "The selling price of homes in Harper Woods stabilized in the last quarter of 2003, and we find that homes are currently priced very competitively. On average, homes in the area are selling within two-to-four percent of the list price. This is a buyer's market. There is a good inventory (over 139 single-family homes available) and interest rates are still very good. There is approximately a five and one-half-month supply of homes currently on the market. A total of 296 homes closed during the previous 365 days."

St. Clair Shores

"St. Clair Shores is conveniently located close to all major interstate highways," says Realtor Sal Zerillo. "A bedroom community on Lake St. Clair and the boating capital of the United States, St. Clair Shores has three excellent school districts, private residence parks with swimming pools, water slides, a children's water park and marinas. St.Clair Shores has a great seniors' center and two ice hockey rinks. It is a city to consider."
