McKinney, Texas Offers Suburban Amenities, Small Town Feel

McKinney, Texas Realtors say the Dallas suburb is a neutral market between buyers and sellers, but continuing low interest rates may stimulate existing home sales as well as new construction.

"The conditions are relatively neutral between buyers and sellers with the large number of homes on the market and new home sales growing at a quick pace," says Realtor Chris Harden. "Also, interest rates remain low and should stay relatively low through the year since they do not fluctuate much during an election year giving buyers the opportunity to purchase an affordable home. Also, there was a noticeable drop in sales at the end of 2003 relative to the past few years meaning fewer buyers purchasing and homes staying on the market longer."

Says Realtor Richard Musgrave, "McKinney contains an historic town square which really provides that small town atmosphere. There are several golf courses in McKinney and a PGA Golf course (The TPC at Craig Ranch) is currently being built. The private membership facility is currently under construction and is expected to open in July, 2004. McKinney also contains 21 parks. The Towne Lake Recreation Area Wilson Creek Softball Complex includes a 22-acre lake, lighted hike/bike trails, two picnic pavilions, restroom/concession services, playground, two sand volleyball courts, nine lighted horseshoe courts, fishing pier, paddle boat rentals, six lighted recreation softball/baseball fields and parking."

"As long as the new listings continue to out pace the sales," says Realtor Marie Walton, "I will have to call this a buyer's market. If you are thinking about buying a home, now is a good time to do so. There are many homes on the market to choose from and interest rates are still good."
