Cheyenne, Wyoming, Attracts Homebuyers Using Its Old West Charm

Realtors in Cheyenne, Wyoming, say the area is increasing in value and attractiveness to homebuyers, due to excellent quality of life, not to mention, Old West charm.

"Cheyenne is a great city to raise a family or to retire in," says Realtor Connie Webb. "It has great schools, medical facilities, and is close to large urban areas. There's easy access for all outdoor sports, and it's just a great place to call home."

About the market, Webb says, "Cheyenne continues to see an increase in property appreciation. Although there was a slow-down in the market this spring, we are very optimistic that the strong economy and potential for job growth will refuel the housing market. F.E. Warren military base was very fortunate to remain among the list of bases that were not forced to close. This continues to bring new families into the area and continued development. Wal-Mart has decided to open a distribution center here and more job opportunities will be available. Other employers who have spoken or have committed to our area are Help Desk Now and Themacore."

She suggests, "Don't forget, the last full week of July is the world-famous Cheyenne Frontier Days Celebration. Cheyenne is very busy during this time, and is a great place for a family vacation. Come on out, put on your boots and hat, and join the fun!"

Says Realtor Kim Strand, "The Cheyenne area is a thriving community that still has many characteristics of the Old West. There's a world-class rodeo (Cheyenne Frontier Days), the F.E. Warren Air Force Base, theaters, symphony, choirs, and other amenities in a friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of shopping opportunities, and if you yearn for the big city, Denver is only one and a half hours away, close enough for a day trip, but far enough away that you don't have to deal with big city inconveniences!"

Strand advises, "Prices have been increasing in Cheyenne for at least five years, as the town grows. There is substantial new construction around town, with a lot of it being with small acreages, under 20 acres. Many homes are on the market, so buyers do have quite a selection in most price ranges. Our average price range is around $143,000. The homes are selling within 98-99 percent of asking price."

Adds Realtor Jon Pietsch, "The June statistics indicate 560 houses are on the market. This maintains our base inventory over the past year. Cheyenne has many economic events occurring that will continue the growth of the city. New companies (Walmart Distribution Center, Help Desk Now, and Themacore) moving to the market continue to employ more and more people at higher wage scales."
