Avon, Ohio, Offers Terrific Mix Of Old And New, Say Local Realtors
by Blanche Evans
Avon, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, is known for a wide array of industries, which surprises and delights homebuyers, say local Realtors.
He explains, "Avon is located 20 miles west of Cleveland on the eastern edge of Lorain County with almost 21 square miles of land. It is only 113 miles from Columbus. Easily accessed from I-90, you will find a wide variety of shopping including several antique shops at the historic downtown French Creek District and Olde Avon Village along with many fine restaurants. Several festivals a year including the Spring Celebration, the city-wide yard sales of the Aunt Teak and Uncle Junque Festival, the Fall Country Living and Antique Festival and the Christmas Candlelite Walk bring thousands of visitors to Avon. Avon also has four golf courses and a hotel. Avon has easy access to major freeways giving quick and convenient access to first class museums, the world famous Cleveland Orchestra, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns and major shopping malls but far enough off the beaten path to offer the peace, comfort and privacy of suburban living." "Along with Avon's fine school system which provides a solid educational background for it's students," continues Francis, "Lorain Community College is just moments away and provides residents with a variety of educational and cultural opportunities. Avon is served by the Lorain County Library system and is close to three major hospitals and several health care facilities. Avon has many varied recreational activities in its four parks with nature trails, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, playgrounds and winter ice skating areas and a fishing pond." Francis adds, "Avon, Ohio, is also proclaimed to be the 'Duct Tape Capital' of the world, the home of Duck Brand duct tape. This year Avon hosted the second annual three-day festival that celebrated duct tape and it's wacky and fun uses. The festival which honored the history and heritage of Avon, Ohio, also included a 'Duct Tape Dad of the Year' contest, a parade with floats and an antique car and truck show."
About the market, DeSmit advises, "You will find homes priced from the $90's to $1,475,000. Solid job growth may provide strong home sales, while low mortgage rates should continue to spur sales."
