February Cybertips

Trick #1: Everyone Loves a Shortcut

A shortcut, loosely defined, is a shorter route or bypass and everyone loves a shortcut that works. In the computer world a shortcut is a key (or combination of keys) that instantly performs a function within a software program. There are thousands of shortcuts for your keyboard that can save you a ton of time but the problem is they are usually buried somewhere in a manual that we can't locate to save our souls.

The folks who bring us this resource claim it is the largest collection of keyboard shortcuts found anywhere on the internet. It's easy -- just use the menu or search function provided to find the program you want a list of shortcuts for. Print out a temporary list of those that are most helpful to you until you have them committed to memory.

Then toss it out -- because you'll probably loose it anyway.

Trick #2: Have a Suspicious File? Check it Here

Did you receive a file attached to your e-mail recently? Be suspicious even if it's from a friend. There's a lot of nasty stuff out there. Here's an on-line service that will check those e-mail files your not quite sure of.

These folks analyze suspicious files and detect viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware by running them through over 30 top anti virus and malware checking programs maintained on their web site with real-time automatic updates of virus signatures.

Use of this service is on the house -- pretty good considering that this was honored by PC World Magazine as one of the 2007's one hundred best products of year in the Web Site Security category.

Great Place #2: Memories From the Past

Like to have been there when Marilyn Monroe sang happy birthday to JFK in 1962? How about checking out the "Where's the Beef" ad from 1984? You can be there to pay your respects at Babe Ruth's funeral in Yankee Stadium. And if you're a boxing enthusiast you'll want to revisit the bout when Joe Louis hammered "Two Ton" Tony Galento in 1939.

This great place is an online community that shares video, audio, and images to help stir our memories of the past. Here you can listen, watch and enjoy old television, newsand commercials from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. With the effective search function you can find your favorite memories from the thousands of historical clips.

Watch out though-this great place is very addictive.
