Carol Best is reporting that, for the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, it is still very much a buyer's market.
One percent of properties for sale in her area went under contract, and the average time these homes stayed on the market was 223 days.
This high inventory is allowing buyers to shop at a huge discount from the asking price, Best says, and these conditions should stay the same for the foreseeable future.
She reports that many buyers are unsure about the market right now, and are simply waiting on the sidelines for the right opportunity.

Best says that there are buyers out there for homes that are priced right and show well.
And now here's a look at other markets across the nation.
