Cheer Up Before Making a Big Change
Get more leads every month with Market Leader!

Have you noticed that if you're feeling down in the dumps about your business, it only seems to get worse? You and your bad mood seem to attract more to be in a bad mood about. It's an ugly, frustrating, discouraging death spiral.

But the good news is that the opposite is also true. If you can somehow resuscitate your mood so that you're feeling chipper again, you and your good mood will attract even more to be in a good mood about!

And more good news, in the real estate business at least, is that it really doesn't take all that much to turn our day, our week or even our month around. One or two sweet referrals. A great open house. A call from a buyer who found you from your blog. And BAM! You're feeling sexy, sassy and smart again.

It's human nature to get hysterical when things are going wrong and to think we have to make a "Big Change" in order to turn things around. That big change, though, can be scary or expensive. So, we either do nothing (and sink further into despair) or we make some under planned big change that may be unnecessary and probably won't work anyway.

Here's a tip. Slow down. Don't make any big change decisions out of fear, frustration or desperation. And don't make any decisions until you're in a good mood.

Does this sound ridiculously simple? It is. Think about it. How was your mood the last time you made a crummy decision? If you're like most people, you can probably name a dozen really dumb moves you've made which were decided upon when you were under stress. Conversely, the best decisions are made when we're feeling sassy, sexy and smart!

So, how do you go about finding your good mood? What will it take to get you feeling sassy, sexy and smart?

It's different for everyone. But if you know what works for you and can remember to do it when you're feeling low, you can almost always turn your mood around. And once you're feeling better, everything else seems to fall into place, which of course improves your mood even more!

It doesn't take a monumental shift in attitude. Just enough of a shift so that you can smile, laugh and be pleasant to those around you.

So, cheer up before you make any big changes! You'll be glad you did!

Jennifer Allan-Hagedorn was a top producing real estate broker in Denver, Colorado before writing her first book in 2007. Since then, she has written several more books about the business of selling real estate including her flagship book: Sell with Soul: Creating an Extraordinary Career in Real Estate without Losing Your Friends, Your Principles or Your Self-Respect, the sequel, If You're Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate, You're Not Doing it Right and her latest, to be released in Spring 2011, Prospect with Soul for Real Estate Agents.

Jennifer believes that the secret of success for real estate agents is not in aggressive marketing techniques or hard-core sales pitches, but rather in being competent in one's craft. Competence begets Confidence. And in today's world of increasingly suspicious and ad-weary consumers, having an air of self-assurance and enthusiasm will be far more effective than a slick sales campaign.

Jennifer writes and speaks with this philosophy in mind. She preaches that salespeople should follow the Golden Rule in their day-to-day practice of business - treating clients and prospects respectfully, as the salesperson him or herself would like to be treated. Being competent, reliable and fair, and motivated by a true desire to earn a paycheck, not just show up at closing with hand outstretched.

She is a regular contributor to several real estate newsletters and magazines, a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame and one of the industry's most popular bloggers. You can learn more about Jennifer's "soulful" philosophies at www.SellWithSoul.com.
