Moving to San Diego

San Diego is known as “America’s Finest City” for a reason. Stellar weather, accessible beaches, and a wealth of things to do have caused the city’s population to boom. Today, San Diego is the 13th fastest growing city in the nation and the fastest in the state of California, just ahead of San Francisco. However, the city’s growing popularity has also driven up the cost of living. If you too are thinking about making the move, there are a few things you need to know before you call up San Diego movers.

1) The Cost of Living is HIGH

Moving to America’s Finest City comes at a cost. Over the last several years, San Diego’s cost of living has skyrocketed. Since 2008, the city’s cost of living has risen by approximately 6%, and today, it’s the 7th most expensive city in the nation. The median cost of a single family home is more than half a million dollars, and the average cost of rent is approximately $1,750 per month.

2) The Weather is PERFECT

On the bright side, San Diego has near-perfect weather. The annual average temperature is 63.65 degrees, the average high is 69.8 degrees, and the low is 57.5. As you move away from the coastline, the temperature tends to rise. This is a good thing because you may need to sell your winter clothes to pay for the move. Seriously, clothes can help you pay for a down payment, professional movers, and other moving expenses.

3) It’s a Foodie’s Paradise

San Diego is paradise for people who like good beer and fresh food. America’s Finest City is third on Forbes’ list of “best beer cities,” right after Portland and San Francisco. Some famous San Diego breweries include Stone, Coronado, and Ballast Point. San Diego also has an incredible selection of locally grown produce which you can buy at one of many local farmers’ markets. That’s also good news because you’re probably going to be spending a lot of money on craft beer.

4) You’ll Never Get Bored

Major league baseball? Check. World-class museums? Check. San Diego has something for everyone, but it may be best known for its zoo. The San Diego Zoo is the largest zoo in the United States, and it’s currently home to three giant pandas. The zoo is nestled in the middle of Balboa Park, one of San Diego’s largest urban parks. If the zoo’s $50 admission fee is too rich for your taste, you can also visit the Rueben H. Fleet Space Center, the Japanese Friendship Garden, or one of San Diego’s many beaches.
