Marketing to your email list is still one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with your customers. It's a crucial tool for any business that wants to increase sales. That's why it's important to keep your list healthy so that it keeps paying off year after year. Here's 5 tactics you must use to ensure that you're getting the most out of your email list.

Branded Responsive Templates

You probably already know about responsive design and how important it is when you are marketing. Your emails must be able to clearly appear on any type of browser that your customers use -- such as smartphones, desktops or tablets. To really have your email stand out from the competition, make sure that you use branded templates that have a responsive design built in to their coding. This makes your emails recognizable and solidifies your brand even more in the minds of your customers.

Grab Their Attention

You only have between 40 to 75 characters to use when you write a subject line for your email. It's important to motivate a prospective reader to actually open the email that you send and start reading. Be sure to use energizing words that grab their attention. By inserting words such as "free" or "improve" into the subject line, you are sparking a reader's interest and telling them it's beneficial to proceed further. However, don't stop there! You may also have pre-header text that you can use to persuade a prospective reader. When available, use this extra text and list benefits that entice your reader even more.

Always Be Personal

Of course, you should always personalize each email by including the first name of your email recipient, but to really stand out and engage with your customers, send emails that show them that you know who they are. Segment buying patterns so that you're familiar with the types of products or services that each person buys. Take that data and send them information that complements those items. Always include any data that you have collected such as anniversary dates, birthdays or account numbers. This shows your customers that you are not just sending them random emails but taking the time to give them valuable information.

Form A Schedule

Like any task, email marketing will take time out of your busy schedule. You already know that it's an important part of your overall marketing strategy so create a schedule that allows you to write more than one email at a time. You should have a strategy that lays out your subject for each email before you start writing. In one email, you may just want to educate your audience. In the next email, it might be time to soft sell them one of your products. Try writing 3 to 5 of these emails during one sitting. If you don't have time to write any emails, consider outsourcing to a freelancer. Once you have 10 to 20 of your emails written, utilizing drip campaigns and sending your readers emails at pre scheduled times. This ensures that you have enough emails ready and can begin creating more for future communication.

Add Personality

When someone opens up one of your emails, they don't want to read something boring. Be sure to add personality to your emails and don't be dull. Use short sentences that get to the point, and don't be afraid to break some punctuation rules. It's probably not a good idea to follow a strict formula. Blueprinted emails will quickly turn the attention span of your readers to "off." Write fast and keep it short when you're crafting an email. Try challenging yourself to finish in a shorter amount of time than usual.

By following these tactics, it should help increase the amount of your emails that get opened, read and acted upon. This will help increase your sales and form a stronger relationship with your customers.
