Renting a home for vacation is a true pleasure. It allows you to get away and enjoy something beautiful and special. However, you still need to follow the rules in order to not be fined. Here are four rules you should follow when renting a property.

Read the Lease Agreement

A proper understanding of your lease agreement is crucial in order to be a quality tenant. This is a contract between yourself and the owner and outlines all you need to know. Information in your lease agreement who will cover repairs and other damages and more. While there will be legal jargon in your lease agreement, it should be reasonably easy to understand. Sections will be broken up easily. If you have any questions, you should ask the owner (before you commit) or speak to an attorney.

Keep the Property in Shape

If you find a wonderful place to stay at temporarily, remind yourself that you’ve been given the responsibility to keep it together. This is not your home. It belongs to the owner and you need to make sure that you don’t violate its sanctity. There might be things like messes that you will have to clean up.

However, you shouldn’t do anything that would cause long-term damage. Make sure that you clean up as much as possible and leave the home better than you found it. Before you move in, make sure that you talk with your property management service so that you know what is expected of you as you take up residence.

Keep Noise Down

If you are renting a home in a place like a beach community, you’re likely to have neighbors. This can be a great way to meet others who are also vacationing. However, you need to make sure that you keep the volume to a reasonable level. Even if it’s vacation, people have reasons to get up early, such as babies. Make sure you are respectful to your neighbors and they’ll be respectful right back to you.

Proper Check-out Procedure

The owner/leasing agent should give you information about how and when to check out. Make sure you understand this and follow it. There could be fines leveled against you for checking out late or improperly. Make sure that everything is kept in place and cleaned up. You also want to make sure that you give back all the keys and have the doors locked.

Renting a property for vacation is a wonderful way to enjoy your time off. However, you need to make sure you’re as respectful as possible. By acting responsibly and maturely, you can make it so.
