How Florida's Top Business Leaders Prepare For A Successful New Year

Historically, the last week of December was one of the least productive times of the year, with few U.S. workers spending the week between Christmas and New Year hard at work. But times have changed, and even those spending the holiday with their families are not completely cut off from work, with new ways to get the job done remotely coupled with numerous methods of virtual communication and instant access to collaborative and accessible workflow apps. In fact, according to Glassdoor.com, of those who are taking at least part of the week off, 64% plan to check-in with the office or utilize the holiday break to identify ways to be more efficient and successful in the year to come.

Between finalizing next year's budget, brainstorming new marketing tactics, scheduling showings, scouting new leads for 2018 or working on improving personal development skills, real estate pros in particular are finding this time of year to be the most productive.

We've caught up with 3 of Florida's best in the biz to get their insights on benefits of working the last week of December that help gain control of their career success.

"I've always dedicated the holiday break to purchasing a journal and working on my business plan for the upcoming year. Whether it's setting new goals, examining what has and hasn't worked, exploring new systems to implement, updating my database of contacts, or sending messages of appreciation to clients and colleagues, it's a solid time to reflect, adjust, and prepare for a successful new year."

Christopher Adeleke, Sales Executive, Douglas Elliman

"Sometimes the best time for business professionals to be “on” is during the holidays when most people tend to be “off." There are certain benefits to working the last 2 weeks of December that go beyond the mentality of "how much more can I get done?" versus asking yourself, "how much better of a product (or idea) can I produce by focusing on the lone task at hand?" It can be a productive time to pop in the office and accomplish work you might otherwise not get to do during busier and louder times of the year. There's always plenty of “loose ends” to tie up and activities to plan that will set you up for a successful 2018. Alternatively, if visiting the office sounds dreadful during the holidays, or if you work remotely to begin with, there are still many social and business holiday functions during the last 2 weeks of December where you can connect with people who can help your career. Creating goals during the holiday break also allows us to better ourselves and come back to work recharged and motivated, while still appreciating the quality time we have with our family and friends."

Steven Grant, VP of Operations, Energy Solutions Direct

"The last week of December can be a busy time of the year especially if you are working the right connections and markets, and there's many reasons for this. First off, it can be a prime period to schedule face time with clients who may be visiting your market or ones who may be in the market you're visiting. Second, if you're a real estate developer with property in sun-drenched regions like Miami or Los Angeles, it'd be to your advantage to market those listings to buyers in colder climates such as the UK or Canada to really sell the lifestyle. Lastly, if you conduct business globally, it's always crucial to keep in mind that different markets have different key selling times. The Chinese, for example, do not celebrate Christmas and continue to work until their New Year holiday, so if that's one of your target demographics, what's considered our Christmas break in December is really the perfect time to make and engage the right connections in China to setup success in that market for 2018."
