3 Home Upgrades that Make a Huge Difference

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 14 February 2018 17:03

Many homeowners have a laundry list of things that they’d like to do to their homes at one point or another. Many of these things are cosmetic; style upgrades that will enhance their enjoyment in their homes by improving the aesthetics.

Homeowners may be concerned, however, that these upgrades may not have the impact they’re hoping for, opting instead to wait on cosmetic changes while they tackle practical concerns instead. There are many improvements, though, that do have a big impact on the way that a home looks and feels, and that aren’t so invasive that they take months and a large budget to complete. These 3 home upgrades will have a definite impact on the style and appearance of your home, and they won’t take a great deal of time or money to complete.

Tile Backsplash

The backsplash is the single spot in the kitchen design that is there completely for decorative purposes. While once tile was installed in this area to help protect the wall from splatters and stains, new, cleanable paints and better cleansers mean that tile isn’t strictly necessary from a functional standpoint anymore.

Decoratively, though, a glass tile backsplash can have a major impact on your kitchen’s appearance. Tile adds color, detail, and interest, and can be used to create a focal point in the room as well. Any material can be installed here, including glass – which helps amplify the amount of light in the kitchen – natural stone, metal, or handmade ceramics.

If your kitchen needs an upgrade, consider installing a new backsplash to boost its appearance. Backsplashes are relatively easy to install, and to replace, and are rarely more than 30 or 40 square feet total, making them an affordable way to add color and interest to the room.

Reclaimed Wood Wall Panels

If you have a room in your home that needs a focal point or some added texture and interest to bring it to life, consider adding a reclaimed wood wall panel. Reclaimed wood wall panels are made up of pieces of wood that have been used for other purposes previously. This type of recycling means that you’re getting an eco-friendly product that also has a history complete with patina, and marks that aren’t found in new materials.

Reclaimed wood wall panels have a lot of variation in color and grain from one piece of wood to the next, which makes them an attractive accent for living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. Install a wall panel behind your entertainment center to add depth to your living room, or consider using one as a headboard in the bedroom. Every panel is slightly different from one another due to the nature of the reclaimed material, which means that each installation will be completely unique giving your home a special look and feel.

New Cabinetry

Cabinetry can go a long way toward improving both the looks and the function of a room, particularly in spaces where cabinets are integral to the design, such as the kitchen. Investing in new hardwood plywood cabinets can be a great way to give your home a big upgrade in both form and function.

Hardwood plywood cabinets, like those made by Columbia Forest Products, tolerate moisture well, so they won’t warp or delaminate like older cabinets, and don’t contain any added urea-formaldehyde, keeping VOC levels in your home low.

Hardwood plywood cabinets come in multiple wood species, grains, and finishes, so it’s possible to get a big style boost as well. Whether you want to redo your whole kitchen, or add some new cabinets to a home office, either way you’re sure to notice a big improvement right away.

Update Your Home

These three home upgrades will make a serious difference in how you perceive your home, and they won’t take a major renovation to achieve. Install one or all three to help give your home a fresh new look this year.
