Written by Posted On Saturday, 24 March 2018 21:34

Having a bed bug problem in your homes means you need effective bed bugs extermination. But what many people don’t know is that you can also get bed bugs in your sofa, as well as in your bed. Carrying out bed bug prevention makes sure you are protected against this most dreaded pest. If you already have an infestation in your London house or business, you need to seek immediate professional bed bug treatment.

Not only can you have bed bugs in your bed, you can also find them near your bed, in your sofa, in your furniture and many other places. To exterminate bed bugs living in your sofa, it takes time and patience.

Here are our top tips for dealing with and preventing bed bugs in your sofa.

  • Don’t have an overly cluttered sofa. We all love our cushions and throws, but it’s important you don’t make it easy for bed bugs to infest your sofa by providing them with lots of hiding places.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner on your sofa regularly to remove any bits or bugs that may be lurking there. Empty the contents of the vacuum into an outdoor bin straight away.
  • Remove the cover of your sofa regularly to wash it. Bed bugs are super sensitive to heat so if there are any lurking there they will die immediately.
  • If you have access to one, having your sofa steam cleaned is also a great way to prevent bed bugs. Steam acts as heat that will instantly kill any bed bugs and keep your sofa sparkling clean.
  • Keep the area around your sofa clean. The places around your sofa can just as easily be infested as the sofa itself, so all clutter should be kept to a minimum to stop bed bug infestations.
  • Move the sofa and vacuum underneath. Bed bugs love the dark, the more secluded the place the better, so a little bit of cleaning under the sofa goes a long way for bed bug prevention.
  • Don’t buy second hand sofas unless you know they are completely clean. Second hand furniture is a huge contributor to bed bug infestations, and bringing an infested sofa into your home will spread the infestation very quickly. Make sure any used furniture has a thorough deep cleaning before you bring it anywhere near your home.
