Hard Water VS Soft Water on hair? Does it really matter? For some, it can be super beneficial to have soft water and others don’t even really understand or notice the difference with hard water.

Hard water and soft water are simply different in the case being that, hard water contains minerals and some hard water can obtain more minerals that other hard waters depending on where its coming from. Soft water is deionized water, meaning it goes through a filtration process allowing it to eliminate most or all those harsh minerals that can possibly have some effect on your body. However, like previously stated, most people don’t really understand or notice a difference in the hard water vs soft water. Believe it or not as well, most of our country's population lives with hard water.

Hard Water on Hair

While hard water might not have much threat to your overall wellbeing, it can have some effects on your hair as well as your skin. Since hard water contains minerals such as Calcium, Limestone and even in some cases, chalk.

Those minerals plant themselves on your scalp when you shower or bathe and more than likely, the shampoos and other cleaning products that you are currently using, aren’t preventing that build up. There are products that can help with that build-up, such as purchasing a shower head with a filter in the head. What that will do, is the hard water will process through that filer and catch what it can to help with calcium composites on the scalp.

If you aren’t wanting to spend the money on a soft water treatment system or even the shower head, there are several DIY concepts and concoctions that can help with the harshness hard water may have on your hair or skin.

Soft Water on Hair

Although I’ve mentioned it before, some people don’t really notice the difference between hard water and soft. While hard water contains minerals that can continue to live on your skin or scalp, soft water is deionized leaving those pesky minerals behind and leaving your hair and skin more silky than dry and damaged.

If you hop out of your shower and immediately have to lather yourself with lotion, or have to blob a handful of conditioner on your hair to prevent that scare-crow like straw hair of yours, your issue is most likely that your body doesn’t like the minerals your hard water is spewing all over you while you are just trying to clean up after a long day. In that case, a soft water treatment system or even that filtered shower head could do wonders on your body!

Soft water also can have a strong and positive effect on those who have eczema or struggle with those stubborn blemishes from time to time. Without those minerals building up, they allow your skin to “breath” better, so to speak. Allowing your skin to have a fresher feeling.

Does it Matter?

Hard water vs soft water on hair is going to depend on the skin type you have or hair type you have either selection is honestly going to depend on your over all preference. My opinion, those with dry skin, dry or damaged hair, soft water might be more beneficial in the long run. Those with oily skin, thin and flat hair, hard water builds up could benefit you as well! Its going to all depend on how you look at things. Majority live with hard water daily. However, soft water systems are becoming more and more popular as time progresses. The benefits are obviously noticeable and it could only be a matter of time until majority of us are using soft water rather than hard!
