5 Easy Kitchen Improvements to Upgrade Your Home

Written by Posted On Sunday, 07 October 2018 03:33

When it comes to remodeling your home, there are always a variety of projects that you could undertake. The trick is in considering each one of them thoroughly and settling on the ones that’ll have the most impact on the home generally. This is especially true if the renovation is part of your plans to spruce the house up to get better prices when you’re selling it.

Even if you’re not intent on selling the house, maximizing ROI is certain to be a primary consideration. Several studies have shown that upgrades done in the kitchen are some of the most impactful in terms of raising the value of a house. Here are five projects you should definitely consider:

1. Fix the Lighting

Adequate lighting goes a long way to showcase the beauty of any room and the furniture and other décor elements in it. If you don’t have enough light, get new ones to cover the entire space sufficiently. Even if the lighting coverage is not an issue, consider getting a decorative light fixture that’ll match the décor and boost the aura of luxury in the home.

2. Mind the Paint

The painting of a room is quite possibly the most important element of its overall attractiveness. You should be sure to have every area that’s faded or stained from the cooking process retouched and restored to its proper luster. You can also take the opportunity to mix and match color schemes, such as by painting your cabinets and backsplash in contrasting colors. That will switch things up and definitely impress anyone who sees.

3. Change the Knobs and Handles

You use them every day, so much so that you might not even notice them anymore, but, decorative or vintage hardware in your kitchen can make a lot of impact on how the room looks. You’ll have to be extra mindful of color and the overall décor scheme in the kitchen while doing this though, so you can maximize the effect. Check out nearby estate sales and hardware stores to see if you’ll find good vintage handles for the different kitchen cabinet sizes you have, but you can always purchase them online if you have to.

4. Organize Things Properly

This might seem like a no-brainer but if you take the time to thoroughly evaluate the layout in your kitchen for possible improvements and then implement them, you’ll likely be pleasantly shocked at how different and beautiful your kitchen will look afterward. Clean all clutter and keep away utensils and appliances you no longer use or only use rarely. Remember to toss out unwanted food items too, while you’re at it.

5. Refresh the Sink

With sandpaper and a can of metal-specific paint, you can bring your sink back to sparkling white condition for a small part of what you’d have had to pay to get it replaced.  In the process, check to see if you can get a new faucet as well. Be sure to only get durable products, even if you have to pay more upfront.
