Chalet A Louer 101: What to Prepare Before Opening Doors to Guests

Written by Posted On Sunday, 21 October 2018 17:30

The province of Quebec in Canada attracts more than 3.6 million local tourists each year. You might be one of them yourself — though you bought a chalet of your own where you can relax instead of checking in at a hotel whenever you need to take a break from life’s responsibilities. But perhaps out of a desire to let others experience the same relaxing feeling that you get whenever you unwind in your vacation home, you decided to convert it into a “chalet a louer” or chalet for rent. However, before you start opening the doors of your vacation home rental to guests, here are some things that you need to prepare:

  1. 1.Toiletries

Some of your chalet rental’s guests might have already brought toiletries with them on their trip to Quebec. However, it isn’t safe to assume that every guest in your vacation home would be as mindful. Stock your chalet’s bathroom with essential toiletries such as shampoo, soap, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, and toilet paper before renting the property out to guests.

  1. 2.Working appliances

Your chalet rental’s guests might be out exploring Quebec’s various tourist destinations for most of their trip. But there will also be periods during their travels in which they’ll go back to your vacation home and either take a short break before visiting the next tourist spot in their itinerary or get some rest for the night after a day of hopping from one destination to another.

That’s why before officially allowing tourists inside your vacation home — you should ensure that all of your appliances are functioning as they should. If your chalet has an air conditioning unit, check if its thermostat is working. The remote control of your TV there should also have fresh batteries in it. All of your chalet’s houselights should turn on and off at the flick of a switch.

  1. 3.Internet access

Some tourists update their social media accounts or personal blogs in real time so that their friends and followers know about the destinations that they visit in Quebec. Unfortunately, there might not be any wireless Internet signal in some of those places, so real-time updates aren’t possible.

If the area where your chalet rental is situated has an Internet service provider, have a cabled Internet connection installed there. Your ISP would also have to provide you with a wireless router upon successful installation of your chalet’s Internet connection. All of your vacation home’s guests can then connect to it during their stay there.

Just remember to never share your chalet’s Internet connection or its password, as you don’t want any nearby vacation homes and other establishments to add to the burden that your Internet connection has to bear. Secure it with a strong password. Write the password down on a piece of paper and place it in a spot where your guests can easily see it so that they won’t have to come looking for you every time they have to connect to your chalet’s wireless Internet.

  1. 4.Bedding

You’ll want to provide a comfortable experience to your chalet rental’s guests. So if your chalet’s bed mattress is already old, musty, and too thin, you should replace it with a brand new one. Same goes for the pillows, and there should be more than a single set of those. Stock up on blankets as well as you never know when someone might rent your chalet during the winter season.

  1. 5.A thoroughly clean vacation home inside and out

Your home is a reflection of who you are as a person, as the saying goes, and the same applies to your chalet. You’ll want your vacation home renters to think of you as someone who likes their property well-maintained and takes care of it properly. To give off that impression to them, both the interior and exterior of your chalet should be as thoroughly clean as possible.

For the interior, make sure that you’ve dusted all of your chalet’s rooms and swept their floors. Get rid of anything that’s just gathering dust.

For the exterior, give your chalet a paint job so that it looks new to anyone who visits it and wants to stay there for a few days. Sweep your front yard as well, and dispose of all your chalet’s garbage properly.

Conclusion

There are several reasons for tourists to visit the province of Quebec in Canada. However, some of them might want to experience what it’s like to stay in a Quebecois house for a few nights instead of booking a reservation at a hotel. As a long-time resident of Quebec with a vacation home to your name, you want to help out tourists looking for accommodation by turning your vacation home into a chalet for rent. But before opening its doors to guests, you’ll want to prepare the above-listed things first.
