How to do a Full Fall Cleaning

You’ve heard of spring cleaning already. It’s the time when you go through all the things that have piled up during the winter months of hibernation. You clean up and get rid of things that you don’t think that you’ll need in the coming year. So if we have a season that cleans up after the winter, why shouldn’t we have a season that prepares for the winter? That’s where fall cleaning comes into play. Fall cleaning is where you go through the summer things that you didn’t use that year, and you toss it. Then you clean your winter things and get them ready to use. It’s a cleanse to de-stress in time for the busy winter months.

1. Go Through You Closets

The first thing that you should do is go through your closets. There’s going to be things that you forgot that you had. Maybe you have an old swimsuit from three years ago that you haven’t worn since that first year. Or maybe you have a set of flip-flops that are starting to fall apart. Whatever it is, go ahead and get rid of it. It’s easiest to get rid of summer items during the fall because you know that you won’t be using it anytime in the next six months. And then you have six months to replace while the summer items are on sale in the stores.

2. Do a Thorough Indoor Clean

You probably haven’t cleaned under the fridge since spring cleaning that year. It’s been a good six months since any of the hard to reach places in the house have been scrubbed, so get out the cleaning supplies and get to work. Pull out the couches, get under the cushions, move aside the beds, and just clean. Think of the odd places where you wouldn’t usually think to clean and go there. That includes the tops of the doors and the door handles. Take a Magic Eraser to the walls and clean up any scrapes that appeared over the summer.

Another benefit of doing a thorough clean just before winter is that it prepares you and your family for flu season. Your home has been building up germs and unseen grime for the past six months over the summer. To make sure that you’re going into the flu season without having already compromised your home, clean it up so that there’s no chance that any viruses or bacteria is left behind.

3. Clean the Car

In the winter, you’ll be spending a lot more time in the car. If you live in a snowy area, then you probably won’t be walking to school or to work anymore. The car is a much safer and warmer bet when it’s snowing outside. Because of that, make sure that you clean out the car and leave it spotless. It will feel so good to have a spotless car. It will almost feel as if you’re treating yourself because you cleaned the car. Throw out any trash, shine the wheels, get new tires, and if your car is too old, maybe even get a new car. There are always great cars for sale near you like a reliable used Mercedes-Benz E-class. If you’re getting a new car, look into getting a car that’s already been lightly used. It will ensure that you get a great deal on a great car. Anyways, clean the car and make sure that you love your car.

4. Make a “New Years Resolution”

Why wait until New Year's Eve to change something that you’ve wanted to change? To do a full fall cleaning, you need to change something about yourself. You need to clean up something in your own life.

Make a plan to change something for the rest of the year. You just have to stick it out until New Year's Eve, and hopefully, by then, it’s become a habit. If not, then you can just start all over. The nice thing about treating Fall cleaning as another opportunity to reset your life is that it allows you to give yourself more and more chances to become better.
