Creating the perfect kitchen for a stress free Christmas

Written by Posted On Friday, 07 December 2018 03:43

Christmas time can be extremely hectic and stressful, especially if you’ve drawn the short straw this year and it’s your turn to cook the Christmas dinner.

We can often end up forgetting about our kitchen when it comes to optimising our home for Christmas festivities. We rearrange the furniture so that we can fit the 7ft Christmas tree in our living room, Christmas cards take residence on our fireplace and the dining room table extends as far as the North Pole, but what about our kitchens?

The kitchen is quite literally where the magic happens. The delicious turkey slowly cooks in the oven, the vegetables steam quietly in the background, the Christmas pudding perfectly ignites and as if elves have worked their magic, the Christmas dinner is served. Yeah right?!

For anyone who has cooked a Christmas dinner before, you know it’s not all glamour and simplicity, and if this year is your first time in the kitchen at Christmas, you’re in for a shock! But what if we could optimise our kitchen to make cooking easier and minimise the chaos?

You’re in luck – today we will be taking a look at some of the best appliances, gadgets and designs that will turn even the most amateur cook into a true Christmas master chef.

Appliances

Christmas dinners are one of the most difficult dishes to cook. It can often feel like you’re feeding the 5000, and with the turkey, potatoes, vegetables, pigs in blankets, and all the other trimmings, it is near impossible to cook everything at the right time. The turkeys cooked to perfection but the roasties aren’t, the mash is getting cold but you’re still waiting for the sprouts – it can be a nightmare!

Double and triple ovens are truly a lifesaver when it comes to the annual Christmas dinner. Gone are the days where you’re oversized turkey would take up the entire oven and you had to try and balance trays upon trays in a bid to cook all your trimmings on time. With a double or triple oven you can be sure that your Christmas dinner will be cooked to perfection and served simultaneously.

Taps

Whenever you need boiling water instantly, the kettle takes about 10 minutes to boil (or so if feels like). This is where boiling water taps can become your new contemporary fitted kitchens assistant! With an instant hot water tap, you can use exactly the amount of water you need without overfilling your kettle and wasting any unused water. They are exceptionally handy at steaming your seasoned vegetables and keeping your coffee topped up whilst you prepare!

Talking of coffee, think about how much time you could save when making cups of tea and coffee for your guests. With an instant hot water tap, not only will you cut down on your energy usage but you’ll be able to manage more dishes at one time and hopefully spend less time in the kitchen and more time with family and friends.

Workspaces

There is so much preparation involved when it comes to cooking the perfect Christmas dinner. The carrots have to be washed and chopped, the turkey needs to be stuffed, the mash potato needs to be ... well, mashed. All this preparation can become overwhelming if you have a limited amount of space to work in.

This is why kitchen islands are so helpful, especially throughout the festive season. If you have an area designated to preparing vegetables, another designated area for meat preparation and another for all your other trimmings, the whole process is going to be much more efficient and less hectic.

You can also optimise your kitchen with drawers, extra storage facilities and even additional seating. Over the festive period, you purchase enormous amounts of food – from nibbles to the actual turkey itself – but where do you keep all this food?

Having extra drawers, units and storage facilities allows you to make the most of your space and store all your food in the correct environment. Additional workspaces and storage facilities should match the aesthetic of your kitchen, and you can even add an extra special festive touch with mistletoe, tinsel and all other Christmas related decorations!

Transforming your kitchen for a stress-free Christmas doesn’t have to be costly or time consuming. You don’t have to completely redesign your kitchen, it can be as simple as optimising your space with a few small changes.

You can leave people in awe of your culinary expertise this Christmas simply by introducing new appliances and transforming your workspace.
