Equipment You’ll Require:

  1. Gloves; to keep your hands safe from the scraper and spot cleaner chemicals

  2. A putty knife or dinner knife; to aid in removing the gum

  3. Peanut Butter; the main gum remover

  4. Paper or hand towels; to clean off the peanut butter

  5. A carpet spot remover; to get rid of any spot created by the gum

  6. A small jug of cold water; to solidify the gum

How to Get Gum Out of Carpet with Peanut Butter - Without Ruining Your Carpet

  1. First and foremost, put on the pair of gloves to keep your hands safe from any kind of dirt and chemicals.

  2. Take the scarper and use it to get rid of any loose gum that is on top of the carpet but don’t tug on the gum too hard, it may lead to too many fibers coming out of the carpet. The purpose of removing gum is to prevent damage to carpet fibers, not cause it.

  3. Take the peanut butter and apply a thick coat of it over the area where the gum is stuck and rub it into the gum with your fingers. The oils in the peanut butter with soften the gum and will make it a lot easier to remove.

  4. Once the gum feel softened, remove it with the scarper and wipe the area with a paper or hand towel to take the main gum piece off and take out any remaining bits and pieces.

  5. Use the hand towel and or paper towel to soak up any moisture left to dry the carpet and repeat these steps a few times if the gum is old and is taking time to come off.

  6. Once the gum is completely removed from off the carpet, use a carpet spot remover to get rid of any spotting.

  7. Once the spot remover is absorbed into the carpet, rinse that area with water to ensure that there are no residues of it in the carpet. You can dip a hand towel into a pail of water and dab it on the carpet and then use a paper towel to get rid of excess moisture.

  8. Once you’re done cleaning, wash your hands too.
