Important Carpet Cleaning Tips for a Long Carpet Life

Whether you’re looking for a regular service or one off carpet cleaning, Australia will have many professional companies that will be able to provide these techniques. Most people will at least do the regular routine themselves through, and some prefer to try to do the deep cleaning themselves as well, so this article will provide tips for both.

Vacuuming

The only sort of cleaning that has to be performed regularly is vacuuming. This will keep your carpet clear of all rubbish and any surface dirt that accumulates on a daily basis. This should be done in commercial and domestic environments.

If you are doing your own vacuuming then you probably won’t need any specific tips, it is all quite self-explanatory. In terms of the routine though, it’s best to go around the whole carpet first and pick up all of the little bits of rubbish that you can as these can clog up a vacuum cleaner.

Also, the vacuuming should not be left to the carpets alone. It is just as important to vacuum your upholstery, which is something that many people not remember, or do not understand in the first place. Most vacuum cleaners have plenty of extensions to make this as simple as possible.

Deep Carpet Cleaning

While vacuum cleaning is an important part of any cleaning regime, it is not all that should be performed in terms of carpet cleaning. If it is, then over time the color of the carpet will fade and it will lose its vibrancy due to the fact that dirt will have built up beneath the surface. A deep cleaning technique is also necessary therefore.

There are two ways in which this technique can be carried out. The most effective method is steam cleaning but this is such an intensive technique that it can damage more sensitive carpets. So for the more delicate materials there is also a dry cleaning method, which doesn’t clean quite as well but is totally safe.

Tips for Steam Cleaning

What follows are a few tips, or things to consider maintaining your carpet to last longer, when you attempt to steam clean a carpet yourself. However it is often a better idea to actually use a professional instead as they are going to be able to make sure that no harm will come to your carpet.

1. Ensure that the carpet is suitable for steam cleaning. This is the first thing a professional is going to do, and it’s the first thing you should do as well. Generally speaking, unless it looks delicate or has long strands then it should be fine.

2. Use an unseen piece of carpet to practice on first. In order to make sure that the technique is not going to be causing problems it’s best to test it on an unseen section first. If you move a sofa or another piece of furniture out of the way and practice there, that’s probably the best method of doing it.

3. Adjust the steam cleaner. You’ll be able to control the pressure of the water, as well as its temperature, so you should try to make sure these are at the right levels. Judging this will take some experience, but on the whole you’ll want them high enough for a good clean, but not so high that they might damage the carpet.

4. Get rid of any excess water. The steam cleaner is also known as the hot water extractor because a large part of the process is getting the water back up again. This is important because otherwise they are could end up rotting. As long as you run the machine over the carpet in extraction mode a few times then there should be a problem though.

How to Dry Clean

When you purchase the cleaning powder, granules or foam that you are going to use for dry cleaning they will come with instructions that you should follow carefully. This is not a dangerous technique though so you don’t have to worry too much about it going wrong.
