Cockroaches can be a nuisance, especially at night because that’s when they come out of their hiding places. Besides being gross, they also carry diseases. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to keep these nasty crawlies away from you as you sleep. While the best way to keep them away is to not have them in your home at all, there are several tips on how to keep cockroaches away at night as you find a more permanent solution.

How to Keep Cockroaches Away at Night - Blocking Access to Your Home

In order to keep cockroaches away at night, you’ll need to utilize baits and repellers. Essential oils also come in handy when it comes to cockroaches. Below is an explanation on how to utilize each method:

Gel Baits

Extermination may seem cruel, but roaches can cause some serious problems as well. You may want to avoid insecticides because some of them leave behind toxic residue. And that’s where gel baits come in. They’re not only effective but also safer. Roaches often find gel bait too irresistible. One they suck up the gel, they either die right there or crawl back to their nests for the last time.

That’s just the beginning. Each bug that dies can take up to 40 more with it. Roaches feed on their dead mates, and in doing so, they ingest the gel and die as well. Over time, and with continuous use, you’ll clear out their nests and free your home of roaches.

Electronic Repellers

Repellers don’t work in the same way as gels or insecticides. Rather than kill the bugs, they drive them away from your home.

Electronic repellers work by emitting sounds that cause significant discomfort to cockroaches and other pests. The best part about this method is that the sounds have no adverse effects on humans or pets.

Ultrasonic repellers have been found to be very effective at repelling roaches, mice, rats and more. Having an electronic repellent in your room, therefore, is a sure way to keep roaches away from you at night.

Essential Oils

Essential oils have wide ranging uses, including repelling pests and bugs. They offer a way to effectively repel roaches without causing any discomfort or harm to yourself.  Some essential oils smell so nice but cockroaches can’t stand the smell. Spraying around your bedroom and bed with a mix of one cup water, eight drops of cypress oil and 10 drops of 100% pure peppermint oil, for example, will have your room smelling great while also keeping roaches from paying you a visit in the night.

Keeping Cockroaches Out of Your Bedroom

The most effective way to keep roaches from your bedroom is to make them unwelcome. Ensure your room is sparkling clean and get rid of any food or water sources. Make sure the room is free of wall cracks and other crevices they love to call home.

Bottom Line

When storing food in your home, keep it in airtight containers. You should also make your your fridge closes properly, be sure to seal it tight to prevent smaller roaches from getting into your fridge and making it their home. With these tips on how to keep cockroaches away at night, you should be able to enjoy your sleep knowing they are not in your home.
