New Appliance Buying Guide

It's not as easy to replace appliances as going into a showroom and selecting the first one that catches your eye. You will also need to consider technological advances such as energy efficiency and upgraded design, along with the size and color of your new appliances. Remodeling your home or just fixing up things around the house is stressful enough without having to sit there and figure out which appliances are going to be replaced. Whether you're looking to replace a single broken appliance or remodel your entire kitchen, while shopping for new appliances, there are some important things to keep in mind.

Fridges

There are three main types of refrigerators of full size. Consider the layout of your kitchen as well as your lifestyle to decide which style works best with your home.

The three most common refrigerator designs:

Top-freezer refrigerator: these refrigerators facilitate access to food as they feature wide doors opening to expose a spacious interior. This model is best suited for larger kitchens as large doors require ample room for free opening.

French door: Another suitable option for a smaller kitchen may be this refrigerator. The doors on a side-by-side refrigerator are the same size as those, but the freezer is a pull-out drawer. If your kitchen is as narrow as possible, avoid this style.

Side-by-Side refrigerator: from smaller kitchen spaces this design is best suited. This is probably the best refrigerator style for your home if you have a galley kitchen as the doors are half the width of a traditional refrigerator.

Dishwashers

It is important to make a list of the features you are looking for in a dishwasher and to determine your budget before deciding which dishwasher to buy. An energy-efficient dishwasher can be found for less than $500, as long as you are willing to forget about fancy upgrades such as a touchpad or a third cutlery rack.

You will also need to decide which dishwasher style is best for you, along with determining your budget and lifestyle needs. In recent years, drawer dishwashers have become increasingly popular because they are easy to load, but they do not hold as many dishes as standard dishwashers, making them somewhat less efficient. It's important not to be influenced by recent trends as you shop.

Washer & Dryers

The size, loading style, and capacity are the most important things to consider when buying a new washer and dryer. Avoid the hassle of returning a washer and dryer that does not fit your home and ensure that the space available is properly measured before making your final decision.

Remember that both gas and electric dryers come in. Electric dryers tend to rack up utility bills while both models operate about the same. If possible, spend a little more money on a gas model up front that will save you money down the road on energy.

Oven/Stove

If you're on the market for a new range, the first thing you need to do is take note of your home's existing range. Is it electric or gas? Use your current appliance as a guide for your new purchase unless you want to spend a significant amount of money running new lines into your kitchen.

Take into account the size, capacity, and style of your home. How much room do you have in the kitchen? Is there just enough room for the standard range of 30 inches or can you upgrade with more burners to something a little bigger? Always open the oven when viewing models in the showroom to see the shelves ' configuration and confirm that they can be adjusted.

Water Heaters

Deciding which water heater to buy typically depends on why you first buy a water heater.

If you're building a new home, installing a tankless water heater often makes better economic sense. This model heats on-demand water, leading to lower utility bills and longer life expectancy.

If you are looking to replace an existing water heater, you may need to update your existing plumbing and electrical systems to switch to a tankless model. If you find that the best water heater for your home is a storage tank, choose a tank with a capacity that matches your typical use of hot water.

Finally, investigate the warranty for various models and select the best-covered water heater. Opt for a model with anti-scale devices, brass drain valves, a tank lined with glass, and a digital display.

It's easy to get overwhelmed by the many options available when buying new appliances for your home. While shopping for appliances that fit the size and layout of your home, always keep your individual needs in mind. Follow the tips above and buy appliances that match your lifestyle and fit your budget and you’ll be off to an incredible start.
