Fundraising is not an easy task to do. It is a perfect blend of both science and art. If you don’t know the right way to approach, then chances are very high that you will screw it up. There are some fundraising mistakes that we all do when curating some of the best strategies for fundraising. So, here are some of the mistakes that you must stop or avoid while planning a great fundraising strategy:

Fundraising Mistakes - Keep These in Mind

#1: Don’t use the word ‘should’

You must be using the word ‘should’ very often in your fundraising campaigns. But you need to avoid this word. Sentences like ‘You should contribute to the cause’ can show arrogance. It is always better to request for the donation. Instead of writing ‘You should contribute or donate’. write ‘your contribution is much needed for the cause. It will be really helpful if you can possibly donate us’. ASking this way will help you get the benefits of fundraising.

#2: Ask when the prospect brought a company to lunch

If your prospect drops you a mail stating that he/she has switched the reservation to a table for 3. Then, probably the company is interested in your fundraiser. But the biggest mistake that you can probably do is to ask your prospect for the donation in front of his/her friend. Asking for donation must be done in an individual. So, what you should do is to turn this situation into an opportunity to kindle both of them. Just ask and see where that conversation leads to. Chances are high that you will be able to turn both into prospective donors.

#3: Asking very casually

There is no way of asking someone for donation in a casual way. Just like casualness doesn’t work, humorous too doesn’t. You have to ask straight and professionally to donate for the good because of your organization. It is completely the decision or the choice of the individual if he/she wants to invest in your organization. Do not just ask casually for a donation. You need to make sure you sound very professional and serious about the matter.

#4: Not asking for higher donations

If you are reluctant about asking the prospective donor the amount of money you need, then you are being too shy. There is nothing called asking for too much. This is one of the tricks. Ask a higher rate, be bold. You never know who will agree to pay that much amount. Even if they negotiate, you will still be able to earn a lot. So, you must ask high. Be ambitious and bold in this situation as your organization needs that.

Conclusion

So, these are some of the fundraising mistakes that many people do. You might have done before too. But this time, make sure that you do not repeat the mistakes. It is important to be quite confident and bold when you are asking people for donation for any good cause or organization and its betterment. A donation can vary from one person to another but you must treat all the donors equally and that is the key to successful fundraising strategies.
