This will ensure everything can be done in proper order, thus saving your money and efforts. Read on to learn more about the basic bathroom remodel sequence.

Bathroom Remodel Sequence - Increase the Value of Your Home

Similarly to updating a kitchen, a remodeling bathroom is a great way to upgrade your home. First, you need to decide what color scheme, theme, and mood you want in your bathroom. You can get inspired by browsing some home design sizes or online magazines. Also, think about your new tiles, doorknobs, towel rods, and faucets as well. Do not forget to plan your budget as a bathroom remodel can be expensive. Make sure to include everything in the budget estimation. If it exceeds your expectations, consider replacing with more affordable items that look similar or purchase the items when they are on sale.

1. Choose the Fixtures and Materials

Before shopping for fixtures and materials, make sure to measure everything to know the precise size of the bathroom and other areas such as cabinets, showers, sinks, bathtubs, and toilets.

Some good options for flooring include glazed and porcelain tiles, or vinyl flooring. Avoid porous limestone as they would easily absorb stains. For paint, go for mildew and moisture-resistant products. Use light tones such as lavender, cream, or sky blue for a confined bathroom. Also, decide the materials for other items such as counters, showers, sinks, and/or bathtub.

2. Lighting and Ventilation

Make sure your bathroom has sufficient lighting to avoid accidents and moisture. Make use of natural light by allowing as much sunlight as possible. Also, plan to have at least four watts of fixtures in each foot. Poor ventilation would result in smells, and mold. Thus, it is always better to have fans, windows, and vents. Make sure to choose a quiet fan to avoid disturbing other people.

3. Dispose of Old Items

Get rid of items that you will replace. These might include toilets, towel rods, and faucets. It will reduce clutter in the working space and make it easier to work. You can dispose of them, sell online, or donate to charitable organizations.

4. Paint the Wall

Paint the bathroom with a paint roller. Make sure to wait from 2 to 4 hours for each layer of paint to dry completely before proceeding with other ones. This will prevent it from becoming bumpy and sticky.

5. Add Flooring or Tiles

Once the pain gets dried, add new flooring or tiles to your bathroom. This might also include the backsplash tiles behind the sink. If you aren’t changing the floors, just remove any protective covers off the ground at this step.

6. Install New Showers, Sinks, Toilets, Cabinets, or Shelves

If you are not an experienced plumber or DIYer, then it is better to have this step done by a professional contractor. Using tiles on the shower walls are a great way to update your bathroom. After installing, remember to caulk around all edges to keep moisture from seeping through.

7. Clean Debris and Dust

Once you have completed bathroom renovation, it’s time to discard any paper or plastic sheets and peel off the leftover tape. Also, wipe down the sinks and counters, then mop or vacuum the floors to remove dust. This will give your bathroom a finishing and nice touch.

Bottom Line

A bathroom remodel is a significant project. There is a variety of tasks to do, from plumbing, electrical, drywalling, taping, to plumbing. If you aren’t qualified for any of those jobs, you can hire an experienced contractor to ensure safety and save your efforts.
