If you are thinking of getting a swimming pool installed, then you may be curious about some of the options available for extra features. You can choose to make your pool a bit fancier than most and add some fun functionality by adding imaginative water features into the design. For inspiration, here are some swimming pool water features ideas that you might want to consider incorporating into your pool to make your time swimming and sunbathing a bit more interesting.

Swimming Pool Water Features Ideas

Some swimming pool water features ideas include adding a waterfall, rock stairway, rain water feature and many more to your pool.

1. Waterfall Feature

The waterfall feature creates a sheet of water flowing over an artificial cliff structure into the pool. A variation of this is to have the sheet of water flow out in an arc from a slot in a wall. You can add more of an arc to the waterfall by having a higher cliff or slot for it to flow from, so it can be designed to be as obtrusive or unobtrusive as you desire. This way, your pool is not only beautiful, but it’s also going to be on trend

2. Rock Stairway Water Feature

This feature uses water flowing into the pool over stacked layers of rocks that are organized like a short stairway. This is great for a more natural looking pool and blends in well with pools that incorporate rock slate or have gardens surrounding the pool.

3. Rain Water Feature

This uses rainy droplets of water flowing down from slots or sprays above the pool. These features are usually organized so they only affect part of the pool, which gives you plenty of room to avoid them when you don't want the spray coming down on you. Depending on the size and shape of your pool this feature may take the form of one or more sheets of rain that looks similar to a waterfall coming straight down from the roof of the pool, or an area of the pool that has a wider spray of water coming down from above. This trend and feature works best with pools that have a roof or similar structure above them.

4. Geyser Water Feature

These features use pressurized geysers of water coming up from the bottom of the pool. Generally these will be placed at the lower end of a sloped or stepped pool, or in shallow pools. The resulting geysers can be great for your kids and pets to mess around with and can be fun to play with by placing balls and ring floats in the geyser.

5. Water Spout Feature

For a more subtle effect the water spout feature uses spouts in the sides of the pool that water flows out of like water coming out of a tap. These features can make use of different types of spouts to add some artistry to the pool. You can have the water coming out of anything from simple pipes to beautiful statues.

Bottom Line

Your time in the pool should be a fun and engaging one so these water features are a great way to add some more enjoyment to your pool experience. These are only a few of the different types of water features available but they should get you started thinking about swimming pool water features ideas that you may want to consider adding when you choose your new pool that you build yourself. Ask the pool installer what they have available that will work with the pool you want and with the area the pool is being installed in. They should be able to advise you to help you get the most value from the materials and design and enjoyment out of your new pool installation -- regardless of the different types of pools that there are.
