Vastu Shastra can be defined as ‘the science of architecture’ that accounts for flow of positive energy in your house. Simply put, Vastu Shastra constitutes the engineering and designing factors for a space considering the five elements of nature, earth, water, fire, air and space.

Certain corridors or spaces in your home absorb and bounce back definite energies. Your emotional, physical, and mental well-being is reflected from the flow of energies in your space. Thus, it is important to study this framework to lead a healthy and wealthy life. And, Vastu Shastra assists you to analyze the same. Main Entrance:

The doorway of your apartment is considered as the main entrance to your home. Since the main entrance is considered as the gateway to your home and positive energy, you have to be utterly sure that it is placed in the apt position and direction. How to ensure that your doorway is placed in the right direction?

  • Ask your realtor or developer for North direction or find it out yourself with the help of a compass (provided you are acquainted with reading compass)
  • The entrance door should be placed in such a way that you face either North, East or North-East direction when you step outside the house
  • Suitable directions for entrance are: North, East, North-East, and North of North-west
  • The door of the main entrance must be taller and solid than any other door in the house
  • Area surrounding the door must be brightly lit and clutter free

 

Living Room:

The structure of living room directly and indirectly depends upon the main entrance. Ideally, the living room should be in the North direction.

  • If you plan to make space for the self-study provision for yourself or your kids in the living room, ensure that you set the table, or any other study arrangement in such a way that you or the kids face either east or north
  • The living room must be brightly lit. Ensure that there are enough sockets to illuminate the living room
  • Furniture like sofa, cupboard, etc. must be placed in southern and western corners of the room

 

Bedroom:

The bedroom should be ideally in south-west direction.

  • In case of master bedrooms, the attached bathroom must not face or open directly towards the bed
  • Recommended: North or East opening windows in the bedroom
  • Avoid placing mirror exactly in front of your bed since it is considered as a bad omen
  • Avoid placing any important electronic devices and appliances in the bedroom like computers, laptops, washing machines, etc.

 

Kitchen:

A kitchen should ideally be in the south-east direction. The South-East direction signifies the fire element, commonly referred to as Aagneya in Vastu Shastra.

  • Gas or stove must be placed in the south-east corner of your kitchen
  • Gas and water connections should not be placed parallel to each to each other
  • Recommended: East-facing window in the kitchen that allows natural light into the room

 

Bathroom and Toilets:

Bathrooms and toilets should ideally be situated in the south-west corner of the apartment or at least close to it.

  • Remember, do not ever opt an apartment with toilet in north-east direction of the space
  • Also, even though the toilet must be in South-West, its door should not open in that way
  • Another important fact: since the wind flows from north-east to south-west, position of toilet in the north-east area of your apartment can adulterate the atmosphere of the entire house

Apart from all of these factors, do not overlook the factors that facilitate cross-ventilation and allow natural light to enter your house. North or East facing, and open balconies and windows let ample amount of natural light into your home and makes way for ventilation as well. Also, ensure that the vicinity around the residence is hygienic and clutter-free.
