Mold is a fungus that thrives in damp places. It is an integral part of our ecosystem but can be a bit of a nuisance when it grows inside your home. You can typically find them on foods, in your refrigerator, on the walls of your house, carpet, and sometimes even near plumbing pipes. In general, they can occur wherever there is moisture.

The bad news about molds is that they can't be eliminated, but the good news is they can be prevented. Here are some tips to keep your property mold-free.

Avoid moisture

Molds grow only in damp places, so the first rule is to avoid the build-up of moisture on your walls and carpets. So, if you see molds growing in any part of your wall, it is time to take a look at the areas in and around the wall to ensure that there is no water or moisture seepage.

Clean immediately

As soon as you see molds, clean it as it can impact the indoor air. This is absolutely essential if you have small children, seniors, pregnant women, or anyone with compromised immunity. You can use commercial products available in grocery stores to clean the mold. But if you have allergies or if the mold is widespread, call a mold remediation service. They are professionals who know how to remove molds and can even suggest the changes you should make to avoid mold growth again.

Ventilate

Remember molds like damp places, so the best way to prevent their growth is to ventilate your property. Open the windows as much as possible and use exhaust fans while cooking or bathing. Consider using fans when you detect moisture and even in closets to prevent any moisture build-up.

Even using the heater during winters can prevent mold growth. In fact, a temperature of 50 to 75 degrees is enough to prevent the growth of molds.

While setting up your things, never pack it all together. Leave enough space for air circulation as this will prevent the growth of molds. Even while putting your furniture, make sure you leave some space between the furniture and wall for air circulation.

Water leaks

Address water leaks immediately as they can quickly lead to mold growth. Whether water is leaking from your bathtub or the roof, call a plumber right away. If you're living in a rented place, inform the landlord or the property management company at once.

Dry your clothes

One way to prevent mold from growing on your clothes is to dry them out in the sun. Wet clothes will retain moisture for a long time and this can lead to the growth of molds. This is why it is a good idea to dry them in the sun if possible or at least air-dry it for a few minutes before putting them back on your closet. This will also reduce the chances of mold spreading to your closet.

Thus, these are some tips that can keep your real estate property mold-free.
