Cutting Your Monthly Household Bills: 4 Options to Consider

Posted On Friday, 14 February 2020 17:33

There are many ways to save money - but when it comes to your monthly bills it can often feel like you’ve got little choice but to pay them. However, the good news is that this isn’t always true - depending on what you’re paying for, the packages that you need, and whether or not you can do without, you may be pleasantly surprised at the amount of money that you can actually save each month. Here are some of the best ways to reduce your monthly spend on utilities and essential household bills.

Ditch the cable TV:

Cable TV can be a huge expense, but for most of us, entertainment isn’t optional. If you’re like most people, you probably feel that your home would be a rather boring place to be if you had nothing to watch. But the good news is that cable TV isn’t the only way to make sure that you can watch your favorite TV programs, movies and sports games. Streaming is becoming an increasingly popular alternative - and for good reason! Services like Netflix are far cheaper than cable TV and all you need is a strong internet connection and a compatible device. You can use a Roku or Amazon Firestick to turn your regular TV into a smart TV with all your favorite streaming apps.

Shop around for better deals:

When it comes to household essentials like gas and electricity, it can be all too easy to just continue paying the same price for months - without even realizing that better deals might be available. The fact is that the prices of gas and electricity are subject to regular fluctuation, so you might find that even though you managed to bag the best deal available when you signed up, six months later there could be even better deals available. Make a point of regularly checking comparison sites to ensure that you’re not spending more than you need to.

Reduce your Wi-Fi speeds:

It’s always nice to know that you can rely on your internet connection at home but the truth is, most of us are paying for speeds that we don’t actually need - and would never be able to fully take advantage of. The highest speeds tend to be suitable for large businesses - so if you’ve got the best speed available, you’re probably paying for far more than you’d actually need at home. Consider downgrading to a package with lower speeds - chances are you won’t even notice the difference.

Determine what you actually need:

Finally, it’s a good idea to go through your expenses and determine which ones are actually worth paying for. Of course, there are some that you’ll never be able to completely cut like the ones mentioned above, but others, such as some insurance policies, subscriptions, memberships, and other services might not be as essential as you first thought when you signed up.

Spending some time going through your monthly household expenses to see where you can reduce or cut them can make a huge difference to the amount that you can save each month.
