What Are The Best Type Of Mattress For Every Room In Your Home

If you have a big family, chances are you will need an equally big home to house them in. Big families also mean a big need for mattresses for each bedroom and possibly for other rooms in the same house. If this sounds like your family, you probably are wondering what kind of mattresses you ought to buy so that your family will be able to live and rest comfortably at home.

Find out more about what types of mattresses you could acquire, depending on what rooms get occupied.

Mattresses for Master Bedroom

If you are the parent of your household, you probably have a master bedroom where you do most of your sleeping. If you have a spouse, then most likely the two of you share a bed. The mattress for this kind of sleeping arrangement would need to be pretty big, even if there are no children yet or if the eldest child is still in a crib. So your best bet for the master bedroom would be either a king-sized mattress or a queen-sized mattress.

The big difference between a king-sized mattress and a queen-sized one is that the former measures 76 inches in width while a queen size will only have a width of 60 inches. However, both are 80 inches in length. This means that if you fancy having a mattress to sleep on that will allow you to turn over in bed without shoving your partner off the mattress, then a king-sized one will be perfect. On the other hand, if you are the type of couple that likes closeness in sleeping positions then a queen-sized will probably do.

Take note that once your first child gets to the toddler stage then most likely you need to make room in the middle of the bed. So in this case, a king-sized is probably the prudent choice.

Mattresses for a Child’s Bedroom

Let’s fast forward to the time when your first child is already old enough to have his own bedroom. Your child will probably need a twin-size mattress or a twin XL mattress. The major difference between these two kinds is that the twin-size mattress measures 75 inches in length while a twin XL mattress measures 80 inches in length. However, when it comes to width, both are 39 inches. This means you need to anticipate just how tall your child will grow to be during his elementary school years so that his legs won’t be hanging off the edge of the bed when he reaches puberty.

If you are planning to have more than one child with your spouse, then ask yourself if you would like two beds in the same bedroom that your first child is occupying. Two twin-sized beds sound just right, as long as there is still room to walk around each bed or for closet doors to swing open without hitting anything.

Mattresses for a Guest Room

Some families have a guest room at home so it would be ideal to have a good-sized mattress there as well to accommodate friends and relatives. However, you don’t have to buy a large mattress for each and every possible number of guests you invite over because some guests could sleep on futon mattresses instead. A futon mattress can be the ideal solution because you could easily store this under your bed or in a closet, ready for the times when other guests will visit.

Another option for the guest room is to buy or have custom made double-decker beds instead. If you want, you can have one pair of double-decker beds on one side of the room and another pair of double-decker beds on a parallel side of the room. This is a good option if you have high ceilings and the guests don’t mind climbing to the second level of the bunk beds.

There are actually two kinds of double-decker beds: one variant is having a full-size mattress on the bottom bunk while using a twin-size mattress for the second level (meaning there is room for two adults on the bottom bunk and one adult for the upper level). The regular variant is just having one twin-size mattress on the bottom bunk and another twin-size mattress on the upper bunk (meaning one adult can sleep on the bottom and another adult can sleep on the top). Incidentally, this is a good option for your children’s mattresses also.

Conclusion

It is ideal to have enough room for every member of the family in your home so it makes sense to have a good mattress for every room in the house also. You don’t have to follow the norm all the time - you can actually choose your own type of mattress, depending on who you think will need it the most. But these tips may help you organize the sleeping arrangements in your home, for the benefit of every member of the family and any possible guests who may visit.
