  • Mason City is home to one of the banks that was robbed by famed bank robber John Dillinger. On March 13, 1934, Dillinger escaped with about $52,000 in cash.
  • Mason City is the hometown of Meredith Wilson, a well-known musician, and composer who gained fame for writing the famous musical “The Music Man.” She also composed the holiday season classic, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.”
