Top Factors that Will Affect your Home’s WiFi Performance

WiFi can be fickle to say the least. One minute, you may be enjoying a perfectly strong WiFi signal, and then you end up losing it when you move just a few steps away. This can be frustrating to say the least, however, there are a few things that you can do to avoid this happening.

Obstructions

WiFi signals can be blocked or sometimes, absorbed by various obstacles. This includes furniture, home appliances and walls. Your WiFI signals will be affected by anything that would have a negative effect on a 5G network, and this is because higher frequency signals are not able to penetrate certain objects as well as those which have a lower frequency.

Interference

WiFi signals tend to occupy the same frequency band of the spectrum on walkie talkies, baby monitors or various other devices. WiFi networks also have the ability to interfere with one another as well. This is most commonly found in apartment buildings or even populated areas. If you are not sure if you are getting interference or not then you can do a speed check. It also helps to visit sites such as Comeon because sports booking sites tend to have very little data to load. If you’re struggling to load something as simple as that, then you may have an issue.

Router Capacity and Your Home

Some computers cannot handle causal website browsing and others can easily render 3D objects. You have to remember that not all routers are equal. You cannot expect a low-end router to provide you with a reliable access connection when you work in a busy office. This is especially the case if you have wireless security cameras, fax machines and even WiFi connections on top of that.

Bandwidth Hoggers

Sometimes, the issue doesn’t lie with the strength of your WiFi signal. It lies with the capacity of your internet connection. Video chatting, streaming on various devices or anything else of the sort can easily bring the strongest WiFi connection to a crawl. If you want to stop this from being an issue, then you need to make sure that there is nothing hogging your connection. One way for you to do this would be for you to try and monitor the amount of devices you have connected. This is very easy to do if you type in your router URL.

It’s important to know that if you have an Xbox or any other gaming console, and you download games, then this will also affect your speeds. Some devices are notorious for sapping your bandwidth and if you are not careful then you may find that you end up struggling as a result. The only way for you to stop this from becoming an issue would be for you to monitor the devices you have connected as mentioned above.
